During his long life, Basil H. Liddell Hart was considered one of the world's foremost military thinkers-a man generally regarded as the 'Clausewitz of the 20th century.' Strategy is a seminal work of military history and theory, a perfect companion to Sun-tzu’s The Art of War and Carl von Clauswitz’s On War. Liddell Hart stressed movement, flexibility, and surprise.
He saw that in most military campaigns dislocation of the enemy's psychological and physical balance is prelude to victory. This dislocation results from a strategic indirect approach.
Reflect for a moment on the results of direct confrontation (trench war in WW I) versus indirect dislocation (Blitzkreig in WW II). Liddell Hart is also tonic for business and political planning: just change the vocabulary and his concepts fit.Category: History.
Liddell HartISBN: 628Genre: HistoryFile Size: 90.42 MBFormat: PDF, ePubDownload: 874Read: 1168“There have been other books about Colonel Lawrence, but none so solid as this.Captain Liddell Hart is a serious historian, a zealous seeker for and sifter of evidence, and a military critic of the first order. As biography it is as nearly full, honest, and plain-spoken as any biography of a living man can be; as history it is important. An impressive and convincing portrait as well as an extremely exciting narrative.
Lawrence is here represented as a Pilgrim of Eternity, a man of universal capabilities, who, when in action, cannot escape general meditation, and when in retreat has to fight the thirst for action. His post-war seclusion is very simply explained: he had done a tremendous job under tremendous strain, had conducted with great genius the Desert War, had seen to it that our promises to the Arabs were implemented as fully as they could be, and needed a rest. There was no rest possible at Oxford where he tried a resident Fellowship of All Souls, and was deluged with callers. There would have been nothing but irritation in being a serving subordinate officer passing on orders in which probably he would not believe. He had to be in supreme command or at the bottom, where orders are received and none transmitted, so a private he became.”—Sir John Squire in the Sunday Times “By far the best book that has yet appeared about Colonel Lawrence and the Arab Revolt. It is a brilliantly illuminating study at once of a man and a campaign.”—The Daily MailCategory: History.

A leading military strategist and historian who fought on the Western Front, Liddell Hart combines astute tactical analysis with compassion for those who lost their lives on the battlefield.
He provides a vivid and fascinating picture of all the major campaigns, balancing documentary evidence with the testimony of personal witnesses to expose the mistakes that were made and why. From the political and cultural origins of war to the twists and turns of battle, to the critical decisions that resulted in such devastating losses and to the impact on modern nations, this magnificent history covers four brutal years in one volume and is a true military classic.Category: History. Liddell Hart, was a British soldier,. In the 1920s and later he wrote a series of military histories that proved influential among strategists. He argued that frontal assault was a strategy that was bound to fail at great cost in lives, as happened in 1914–1918. He instead recommended the ' and reliance on fast-moving armoured formations. This history of this work is involved, as it has multiple titles and editions.
Later versions are known as Strategy: The Indirect Approach as well. Danchev notes the first version was developed in 1929, and was rewritten and updated in 1941, 1946, 1954, and 1967. Connelly also uses the term 'Anglophone rehabilitation'.

Kitchen: 'The North African campaign has usually been seen, as in the title of Rommel's account, as 'War without Hate', and thus as further proof that the German army was not involved in any sordid butcheing, which was left to Himmler's SS. While it was perfectly true that the German troops in North Africa fought with great distinction and gallantry, (.) it was fortunate for their subsequent reputation that the SS murderers that followed in their wake did not have an opportunity to get to work.' Kitchen further explains that the sparsely populated desert areas did not lend themselves to ethnic cleansing; that the German forces never reached Egypt and Palestine that had large Jewish populations; and that, in the urban areas of Tunisia and Tripolitania, the Italian government constrained the German efforts to discriminate against or eliminate Jews who were Italian citizens.Citations.
