I fortunately do not get migraines but my head is hurting a little. I picked a virtual machine to try my remove wine, upgrade to 7.7 and reinstall wine trick. /etc/centos-release tells me it is already 7.7 - done back on September 5 by the file date. And wine is installed and working(?) 'yum list installed' does NOT show wine.

Fortunately I keep some notes and I see that I manually built wine32 version 3 on this machine. On my main workstation wine is found by 'yum list installed' so I must have installed it from the harbottle repo. I have exclude=wine. in /etc/yum.conf and yum update will not attempt to upgrade wine I am still hitting the offending library conflict. I see that the upgrade will attempt to install vulkan but NOT spirv-tools.That sounds like a bug but not the bug related to wine dependencies as I am not touching wine. Vulkan is coming from base. According to the RH bug report that version of vulkan does NOT require spirv-tools-libs. The latter package is required by the epel vulkan package which is in turn required by the epel wine package.I have a backup of the OS on my workstation.

I think I will now uninstall wine as installed from the harbottle repo, install wine locally from the harbottle rpm files, see if my wine programs still work and then try upgrading again. If that breaks the thing I might just install Linux MintKen.

And now my butt is hurting tooI decided to remove wine from my workstation. Yum seemed to do that for me but also removed vlc and a couple of its dependencies. It still would not do the update to 7.7. I tried to manually install wine from my local rpm files.

This time it objected to a man page gz file related to jack-audio-connection-kit. I could not put vlc back on either. Time to flush this and start over.I had taken a Clonezilla snapshot a few days ago when I observed that yum wanted to upgrade me to 7.7. I restored the / partition from the snapshot so I could try again. This time 'yum list installed' did not show any wine packages. Winecfg showed me 3.0.1 which is I think what I have in the local rpms. I am not sure if I did a localinstall or installed from harbottle's repo when I installed the OS a while back.

Perhaps he was still at 3 although I would have expected yum list to show that the packages if they came from the repo. That said. I tried the yum update again. I found that spirvtools were installed. I removed that offending package and the update went through fine (except that I neglected to enable the elrepo repo and my nvidia driver did not update so I am running the previous kernel at the moment. I have upgraded the nvidia driver and need to reboot again. Interestingly wine is not installed according to yum yet it works fine and wincfg tells me it is version 4 And, vlc is still installed and works.I now have a CentOS 7 installation which I could not reproduce.

Sort of like back when I ran CentOS 6. Time to take another snapshot just in case now that everything seems to be working.Ken. 2019/09/24 14:36:06And now my butt is hurting tooI decided to remove wine from my workstation. Ken I could - and did install vulkan, - but not WINE. Vlc was simply removed until epel (or whoever) catches up with the rest of CentOS.Here is a novel idea: See if you can get WINE to run - are you ready for this? - under CentOS 8.0. Just notice that 8.0 is now out. My guess is that 8.0 is DOA.

You.might. be able to get it to boot, and run some basic programs, but 50% of all programs will not run at all. That was what happened with the release of CentOS 7.0. I might install 8.0 as a VM just to kick the tires so to speak and see how big a disaster it is. I seriously doubt there is version of WINE out for 8.0 but we might be pleasantly surprised. Worth a shot.I don't know if the cart comes before the horse or the horse before the cart. The problem with WINE is vulkan, which is touted to be a low-overhead, cross-platform 3D graphics and computing API and targets high-performance realtime 3D graphics applications such as video games and interactive media across all platforms.

It is a new API for hardware-accelerated graphics (and general computation) via traditional GPUs. Vulkan is the new generation, open standard API for high-efficiency access to graphics and compute on modern GPUs.

It is sometimes referred to as the Next Generation OpenGL. WINE is so last generation, and was designed to run under OpenGL, yet - I'm not sure of this - they are trying to get it to run under this evolving 'Next Generation' version of 'OpenGL', and in the process broke something, rather than making it backwards compatible to run under either OpenGL.or. vulkan.

Presumably the logic is that they would like to run WINE on Smart Phones - given the profusion of these devices - as well as laptops and desktops.Have fun with your hack-a-thon.More rain for tomorrow - Oh JOYD'Cat. I upgraded my last CentOS 7.6 machine last evening. It had wine v4 - I guess updated from the harbottle repo at some point. I removed spirv-tools-libs which whacked a bunch of wine. Next I removed the rest of wine. I did a local install of my win32 bit v3 rpm files. Wine and the one Windoze program on the PC worked fine.

I then did the yum update and installed 47 bigabytes of CentOS 7.7. I rebooted, it came up and is running.I guess some day I need to build a CentOS 8 virtual machine. Yes StevenD57 you are quite correct. Harbottle is now at version 4.

A couple of my machines upgraded the version 3 which I had installed to 4 because I had left the harbottle repo enabled. This caused the issue. Wine v4 requires spirv-tools-libs which has the offending library.

Wine v3 does not have this dependency. Fortunately I saved the v3 packages and can install the locally. Perhaps you might ask the harbottle maintainer if a copy of the last v3 packages can be made available until this library conflict fiasco is resolved.

If not, please let me know and I would be happy to provide you with a copy of the rpm files I have. No warranty of courseKen.

I found the missing libX11-devel-1.6.5-2.el7.i686.rpm on a different centos ftp site in Japan, downloaded it and then installed it with:# yum install /tmp/rpms/libX11-devel-1.6.5-2.el7.i686.rpmThen I redid the following command:# rpmbuild -target=i686 -ba vulkanmine.specand this time it did indeed build a vulkan-1.1.97.0-1.el7.i686.rpmOnce I installed that with:yum install /root/rpmbuild/RPMS/i686/vulkan-1.1.97.0-1.el7.i686.rpmI was then able to successfully do:yum install wine.i686and I now have the various wine i686 rpms installed I assume from the harbottle repo. 2019/09/25 12:00:43I upgraded my last CentOS 7.6 machine last evening. I'm on the hunt tonight (only 30% chance of rain tomorrow) just for fun I tried to re-install WINE and it does indeed list version 4.0-2.el7. This makes me wonder if the previous version (which I will assume was 3.x-y.el7) would run under 7.7?This raises a more interesting question: Note it says wine x8664 4.0-2.

El7 and that it is found in the epel repository. Now that CentOS 8.0 has been released packages that will run in 8.0 will be marked.el8. I consider 8.0 DOA and there probably a gazillion packages still missing.

But - in theory - epel should at some point release wine x8664 4.0-2.
